Another milestone shared across the functional medicine movement was reached in late 2019, when the Journal of the American medical Association published a study. The study asked this question, “Is the functional medicine model of care associated with patient-reported health-related quality of life?” The results answer was a resounding “yes,” reinforcing that functional medicine can improve global health in patients. While we have known this to be true, seeing the words “functional medicine” in one of the most respected journals in the world is exciting, and marks a critical step in validating new perspectives in medicine.
